The coalition supporting the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Amendment, which is constitutional amendment number one on the 2018 general election ballot, kicked off its paid advertising campaign earlier this week with a digital strategy designed to reach targeted voters between now and November 6.
“We believe that as people learn about this important amendment, they will agree that investing in our waters and lands is the right thing to do – especially if it can be done without raising taxes. The approximately $20 million in annual funding that will be dedicated for the next ten years if the amendment passes will have a generational impact on the quality of life for all Georgians as well as our economy,” commented Thomas Farmer, senior policy director for The Nature Conservancy and manager of the amendment campaign
The ads focus on the positive impact the funds dedicated by the amendment will have on the state, as well as the fact that it does not call for a new tax. They can be viewed here:
If passed, the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Amendment will protect Georgia’s waters and lands by constitutionally dedicating a portion of the existing tax on sporting goods for conservation purposes including the protection of lands critical to clean drinking water, support for the creation and maintenance of parks and trails, and the improvement of areas to hunt and fish. It will also support Georgia’s growing outdoor recreation industry, which has a $27 billion annual economic impact, as well as other economic sectors that rely upon waters and land.
Legislation placing the amendment on the ballot received overwhelming, bi-partisan support from the General Assembly earlier this year.
The Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Coalition is comprised of The Conservation Fund, The Georgia Conservancy, Georgia Wildlife Federation, The Nature Conservancy, Park Pride, and The Trust for Public Land.
